Latest Gifts and Acquisitions 2010-2016

The Museu Picasso of Barcelona presents the exhibition Latest Donations and Acquisitions 2010-2016, in which for the first time a selection of works, images and documents will be exhibited which are the most representative of the collections received by the Museum in recent years. These include a total of 115 works by the artist, 15,871 photographs by various authors, 3,277 photolithographic prints and 24,221 textual documents related to Picasso and the study of his work and his life that now form part of the collection. The exhibition responds to the will of the Museu Picasso to make these new collections known to the public, which will also be periodically put on show in exhibitions related to the collection of the Museum. Furthermore, these donations and acquisitions respond to one of the main aims of the Foundation: "to increase its heritage by giving value to the collection and complementing it in a notable way”.

The new collections come from some anonymous donators, but mainly from the donations of David Douglas Duncan in 2013, from the publisher Gustavo Gili in 2014 and from the Brigitte Baer Archive, donated by David Leclerc in 2015. We can also find works from the donations of Alejandro Nadal Joris (2010); from Víctor Oliva, José Antonio Acevedo, Lluís de Bonis Isern, Arturo Taracena and Peter Mussfeldt (2012); from Anna Gaspar (2013); from the Galeria Kornfeld (2015), as well as pieces acquired recently. Worth highlighting and exhibited for the first time is Le déjeuner sur l’herbe, according to Manet, a drawing from 1962, part of the series in which Picasso pays homage to the artist and to the work that he admired so much; Bacanal, a drawing using a mixed technique from 1964 which represents a bucolic world with clear references to the classic past of the Mediterranean, and Parella, a late watercolour from 1968. It is also worth highlighting La Celestina making the presentations, from 1970, with a character who interested Picasso from the time of the Blue Period, making her the protagonist of many works, and Pablo Picasso at the bullfight, an image of Jan Adam Stevens, who in the summer of 1955 photographed the artist with his family and friends in Vallauris.
