Cartoons on the Front Line

The show takes Picasso's 1937 etchings Dream and Lie of Franco as a starting point. Conceptually and formally preluding Guernica , these engravings also symbolised the artist's committed political stance during the Spanish Civil War.

The series of prints entitled Dream and Lie of Franco made by Picasso in 1937 is the starting point for this exhibition, organised and produced by the Museu Picasso. As well as anticipating the Guernica in both conceptual and formal terms, these works represent Picasso's political engagement during the Spanish Civil War.

The show also strikes up a dialogue between the iconographic elements in these vignettes and in those by other artists, from Goya to graphic artists working in the mid-twentieth century.
