The 1920s
In th e 1920s, many artists moved away from avant-garde styles and returned to figurative and classical traditions, focusing on themes like motherhood and Mediterranean myths , recovering nostalgic manifestations as a means to deal with times of loss and alienation . This movement, often called “the return to order” or “the classical revival,” was a response to the trauma of World War I , the effects of uncontrolled industriali s ation and the socioeconomic crisis . While some viewed this shift as conservative or reactionary , in fact it also reflected a desire for stability and timeless values, blending classical tradition with a renewal of modern artistic expression.
